As part of OAHSM’s commitment to adopting 21st century communications, I sent the OAHSM board members for 2010 an invitation to post to this blog today. My hope is that each board member will regularly post news from his or her region. Thus, if you are an OAHSM member and would like to have your news added to the blog, you can contact a nearby OAHSM board member (the list with email contacts can be found in your latest Local Historian) or the Local History Office at oahsm@ohiohistory.org.

This is a great way to find out what's new with other local history organizations in your area and in the state. Some people are put off by blogs, wondering what to write about. I jot down the little things and share them in our newsletter and will do the same with this OAHSM blog! For example, one of our members is tied to the Wickham family of Athens County, one of the first famiilies to settle here. He found tin types of relatives recently and was kind enough to send scans of them our way today. One of the ancesters was born in Vermont in 1787! The photo scans he sent were of this ancestor and his wife as a young couple, then another of both of them many years later. It was interesting to see how they and the style of dress had changed. I think it's the little things that we learn about the people in our local past that keep things lively!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kelee and Jackie -- I am excited about OAHSM's blog and look forward to learning more about it can help OAHSM to spread the word about local history in Ohio and how those of us engaged in it can help one another. Happy 2010!
