OHS's Local History Office learned today of a break-in at the Soldiers, Sailors and Pioneers Monument in downtown Hamilton. According to a story in the Hamilton Journal-News, stolen was an unknown amount of money and at least two Civil War era swords, two rifles and a model of a 1928 Thompson sub-machine gun, according to police records. The swords were later recovered in the bushes behind the monument.
The theft occurred sometime between August 1 - 5. If you have information about this crime, you are asked to call the Hamilton police public affairs office at (513) 868-5811, ext. 2007.
